Sliding patio doors and French doors in the Pays de Fayence

Which type of door?

• Sliding patio doors

  Panels slide past each other on a track. The classic solution for a wide opening onto a terrace, in two, three or four panels.

• Lift-and-slide

  The panel lifts off its seals before it slides, so a very large and heavy leaf still moves with one hand. Better sealing and better insulation.

• Pocket sliding doors

  The panels slide into a cavity in the wall. When they are open the opening is completely clear — nothing in the view at all.

• French doors

  Two full-height opening leaves, hinged. Ideal where the opening is narrower, or where you want the doors to open right back against the wall.

Thresholds, comfort and safety

We fit low or flush thresholds wherever the construction allows, which removes the trip hazard and makes the inside and the terrace read as one level — it matters if anyone in the house has limited mobility.

Large glazed areas need the right glass. On south and west elevations we normally recommend solar-control glazing, which cuts the heat gain without darkening the room. Laminated safety glass is standard on full-height panels, and we can add acoustic glazing where there is road noise.

Multi-point locking, anti-lift blocks and reinforced handles are available across the ranges. Insect screens can be fitted to sliding doors as well — see shutters, screens and pergolas.

Aluminium or PVC for a sliding door?

For a wide opening, aluminium is usually the right answer: the frames are slimmer, so you see more glass and less frame, and the material handles the weight of a large panel better. PVC makes sense on more modest openings where insulation and budget come first.

Replacing an existing sliding door

In renovation we normally fit the new unit over the existing frame. There is no rendering to redo outside and no plastering inside, the job is usually done in a day, and we take the old unit away.
